Note re upcoming AGM on 24 April 2024

The Committee wishes to inform all members that according to the Association Constitution (Paragraphs 47 to 52), certain positions within the organization must either be appointed (in case of a single nomination) or elected (if multiple nominations are received). These positions are the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and a minimum of 3 ordinary committee members.

It is important to note that the “role positions” of Course Coordinator, Property Officer, Webpage Manager, Publicity Officer, and Social Coordinator are not exclusive to Committee members. Any member is welcome to step up for these roles at ANY TIME. You do not necessarily have to be on the Committee to take on these responsibilities.

The Committee strongly encourages members, or even small groups of members, who are interested in supporting the Association by fulfilling these roles to come forward. 

Other U3As have found success in delegating these responsibilities to smaller groups, which not only lightens the workload but also allows skilled members to contribute without being obligated to join the Committee of Management.

In the past, the Public Officer has been included on the nomination forms, however, it is important to clarify that the Public Officer is appointed by the Committee and does not go through the election process.

As we approach the upcoming AGM, there may be a change in the format to ensure compliance with our Constitution. We urge members who possess the necessary skills for any of the role positions within the Association to step forward. This is “our U3A,” and introducing new ideas and skills can greatly benefit the Association and all its members. Your willingness to contribute will be greatly appreciated, and you will be making a valuable contribution towards the betterment of our community.
